CleanYourTV for Samsung, LG, Roku and VIDAA TVs
CleanYourTV removes ads and bloatware from Android TV and Google TV, so it cannot run on Samsung, LG, Roku, Vizio or Hisense VIDAA sets. Since version 3.1 the project gives their owners a different path: turning off the tracking with the remote. Nothing to install, no root, and every step can be undone. Here is the short version, by brand.
Last checked: November 1, 2026, against the official guide at cleanyour.tv/not-android and the v3.1.0 release notes.
Menu names move between software versions and countries. The official page lists every model year’s path with its sources; this site has not tested these steps.
Why CleanYourTV cannot run on these TVs
CleanYourTV works through ADB, Android’s debug bridge: it disables packages and installs a launcher. Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Roku OS, Vizio (SmartCast) and Hisense VIDAA have no ADB. In 3.1 the README, PROMPT.md, AGENTS.md and tools/tv.py all point to the non-Android guide as soon as a TV turns out not to be Android, instead of trying anyway.
What these TVs mostly do is automatic content recognition (ACR): they recognise what is on screen, including live TV and HDMI devices, and report it for advertising. The guide cites a 2024 study (IMC 2024) that found opting out in the settings stopped Samsung and LG TVs’ traffic to ACR servers.
Samsung (Tizen)
- Viewing Information Services off (Samsung’s ACR). On 2025 TVs: Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Terms & Privacy. On 2022–2024 TVs the same path continues to Privacy Choices. On 2019–2021 TVs: Settings → Support → Terms & Privacy → Privacy Choices. On any year, the Privacy Choices app in the home screen side bar opens the same agreements.
- Untick the rest on that screen: Interest-Based Advertisements, and on some models Customization Service, Improve personalized ads and Get news and special offers; turn Do not track on.
- Reset PSID (the ad ID) where it exists.
- Bixby Voice Wake-Up off, and slide the TV’s hardware mic switch off if it has one.
Owners report ad settings switching back after some firmware updates, so look again after one.
LG (webOS)
- Live Plus off (LG’s ACR). On 2021–2024 TVs: All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Live Plus. On 2025 TVs it is the Viewing Information agreement under All Settings → Support → Privacy & Terms → User Agreements.
- Decline the optional agreements in User Agreements: Viewing information, Voice information, Interest-based & Cross-device advertising and Who.Where.What?. Only the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy are required.
- Home Promotion and Content Recommendation off in Additional Settings → Home Settings.
- Hands-free voice (“Hi LG”) off if you turned it on.
Roku
- ACR off: Home → Settings → Privacy → Smart TV Experience, or on the web at my.roku.com under Privacy Settings. Roku TVs from TCL and Hisense have it; Roku sticks do not.
- Personalize ads off in Settings → Privacy → Advertising.
- Microphone access per channel in Settings → Privacy → Microphone.
Vizio (SmartCast)
- Viewing Data off in All Settings → Privacy & Legal (older menus: Admin & Privacy, or System → Reset & Admin), and the option to link viewing to a Walmart account off where it is offered.
- Limited Ad Tracking on and Reset TV Advertiser ID, under Advertising in the same menu.
Hisense VIDAA
On VIDAA, Hisense’s own system (also used by some Toshiba TVs), the tracking is called Enhanced Viewing Service. It is opt-in at setup and recognises what is on screen from its audio. Your VIDAA version is in Settings → Support → About. Hisense TVs on Google TV or Android TV are different: CleanYourTV supports them, see the Hisense guide.
- Automatic Content Recognition off: Settings → Advanced Settings → Enhanced Viewing Settings, then decline both pop-ups. On VIDAA U5: Settings → System → Advanced Settings → Enhanced Viewing. Not every country or model has it.
- The rest of Enhanced Viewing off on the same screen: Personalized Ads, Content Recommendation and Automatic Picture and Audio Quality.
- Personalised Ads off and Reset Ads ID in Settings → System → Advanced Settings → Personalised Ads.
- Check what you agreed to in Settings → Support → Disclaimer and Privacy and deny the data-sharing consents you do not want; unticking the VIDAA Account one signs you out. Remove User Data in the same menu deletes your usage data.
- Hands-free voice off (“Hey VIDAA” or Alexa) in Settings → System → Voice Service, plus the TV’s own mic switch if it has one.
Going further: guest network and DNS blocking
- Guest network: moving the TV to your router’s guest or IoT network keeps it away from your other devices. Casting from a phone on the main Wi-Fi then stops working unless the router passes mDNS.
- DNS blocking with NextDNS, Pi-hole or AdGuard Home and a per-brand tracker list stops the TV finding tracking servers. The official guide lists which Samsung, LG, Roku, Vizio and VIDAA domains to block and which to keep: blocking clock, update or account domains breaks apps, so block host by host and keep update domains open.
Other options for these TVs
- A separate streaming box: an Android TV or Google TV box on HDMI can be cleaned up with CleanYourTV; leave the TV itself off the network.
- A different home screen as an app: Free My TV runs on LG (webOS 3+) and Samsung (Tizen) as an app; the TV’s own home stays.
- Community projects: the official showcase lists Skylight, a home screen for Samsung Tizen, and a CleanYourTV webOS edition for LG.
Non-Android TV questions
Does CleanYourTV work on Samsung, LG or Roku TVs?
The cleanup and the launcher do not: they need Android’s debug bridge (ADB), which only Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV have. Since version 3.1 the project offers a remote-only guide for Samsung, LG, Roku, Vizio and Hisense VIDAA that turns off content recognition (ACR) and ad targeting in the TV’s own menus.
Does CleanYourTV work on Hisense VIDAA?
No, VIDAA is Hisense’s own system, not Android. On VIDAA turn off Enhanced Viewing, personalised ads and the optional data-sharing consents in Settings. Hisense sets that run Google TV or Android TV are supported; see the Hisense guide.
Will turning these settings off remove the ads?
Mostly not. The ads stay, but they stop being targeted at you, and the TV stops reporting what you watch. Removing the ad rows themselves needs an Android TV or a separate streaming box.
Can I undo the steps?
Yes. Every step is a switch in the TV’s menus, so turning it back on in the same place undoes it. Moving the TV back to your main Wi-Fi undoes the guest-network step.
How do I know if my TV runs Android?
Look in Settings for an About page with a Build or Android TV OS build entry. Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Roku, Vizio (SmartCast) and Hisense VIDAA have none. When an assistant using the 3.1 prompt finds one of those systems, it stops and points to this guide.
